Japanese Local Scenery with Small Temple

When I looked up at the sky, rain has been finished. The day was really nice day to go out.
In the photo, you see a small street I walked along at that time. It's a local scenery, nothing special for all Japanese.

When you walk in a city in Japan, you will find this kind of small temple or shrine. In it there's a sculpture of one image of Buddha called Ojizou-san. "San" in Japanese  is way to call somebody  politely and familiarly.

The scenery may not be worth seeing for Japanese because it's so homely. How about you? When Japanese watch a big burger like American fast food, we will be surprised. It's also nice way to enjoy our travel!

Souvenir from Canada

They are our guests from Canada.

They gave us a mug and spoon as a souvenir from Canada when they checked out.
It's very simple and nice mug, isn't it?
Also it's easy for everyone to realize this souvenir is from Canada.
Thanks guys. We will use them carefully.

Well, It's funny word here.
In Japan we call a mug "mug cup(マグカップ)".
We are saying the same thing twice like mug mug or cup cup.
I don't know why. But we've been saying that for ages.
Sometimes Japanese English is strange.
You might not understand the meaning when we use that.
But we've been using the kind of words without sense of incongruity.
When i find other strange words of Japanese English, i'll tell you on this blog.
Please look forward to that.

Kyoto City Budo Center(京都市武道センター, きょうとしぶどうせんたー)

This gate is not for a museum or old library. It looks artistic and historical. I took the photo in autumn.

Yeah, this gate made of stone. And the following photo is a wooden board at the left.

That building is for Budo, which means martial arts. The main part was built about 100 years ago. In the building everybody practices sword fight, art of archery by the old Japanese style and Judo, Aikido, Naginata, and so on.

Kyoto was an old capital of Japan. So this city is very historical. And this building is one of the place to observe the history. Do you like Samurai hero? If so, when you go to the place, you may find one!

Japan is Such a Safe Country!

Basically, backpackers are really friendly, outgoing, kind, and moral, because they go to so many countries. And they get understood about the rules even if it's unwritten.

By the way, this is a PC in our common room. Yeah, that's normal. But, take a look at the right in the photo. There is a camera connected to the PC. Somebody left it. The common room was empty, when I fount it.

And a message on the key board! The somebody want to let others to use the PC, while it's using the PC for backing up!

Yeah, Japan is such a safe country. You can leave your camera. And, you know, backpackers have the tendency to be really kind and EASYGOING!

Oh, but, it's just from my view. If you are a backpacker and have another idea, let me know! I want to know more!

Happy Late Christmas!!

Our guest from Germany came back to A-yado for the first time in a half-year.
After he left at A-yado, he was working at guest house in Nara as a helper.
So we have seen him since then.
Welcome back!!
We are really happy that guests who stayed here come back again. Because we can share a good time again!!

He gave us chocolate for the Christmas present.
Actually this chocolate was sent from his parents about 20 days ago.
And he got them today. It's late Christmas present for him.

Also his parents sent him Japanese study-aid books.
But he will be leaving in Japan in 1 week.
So he said he wanted to get them more early.
We hope he will continue to study Japanese after he goes back.

Happy Late Christmas!!

MOVIE- Shamisen(三味線) player on street in Kyoto

When I went down the busiest street of Kyoto, Shijo St., I found a Shamisen player. Shamisen is a Japanese traditional instrument with strings. It looks like small thin guitar, but the sound from strings are completely different.

I uploaded a movie on youtube. Please listen to it!!

Yeah, he has a great skill to play Shamisen. He may be a famous player, or he is just great one of oblivion. I'm not sure.

That kind of music is sometimes very touching, especially, when I got tired to walk on the busy street. I hope you can meet those kind of players! Good luck.

Local Shrine in Kyoto in the new year days

When I hanged out around a town, which was not very busy, and not very quiet. Some places had so many people. Those places, sometimes, needed patience to enter after waiting time.  Crowded places are not bad. But, we need a rest, right?

Quiet, and the weather was great. The shrine has some ornament for the new year.

Hanged purple cloth and sort of a string, and also saki on the left of the photo.

I relaxed in the shrine for a minutes. That was early morning. And then some people came for New Year's visit to a shrine. In the our daily lives, a shrine and temple is not very important, yet we, sometimes, have the sense to consider they are very important to us. For us, it's not religious things, but a daily scenery.

Yeah, Japan may be a little bit a strange country from your view!
Enjoy that, when you come here!
