On 16th August...

This is a view from the top of Mt. Daimonji (大文字山).

On 16th August five giant bonfires are lit on five mountains surrounding the city.
This is an event called Gozan no Okuribi in Bon festival.
Mt. Daimonji is one of the five mountains.

Mt. Daimonji is open for 24 hours so you can go up the mountain at night.

This is a view from the top in the daytime.
Mt. Daimonji has totally different two faces.

When you walk in the mountain at night, a torch is necessary.
Without torches, you cannot see anything.
Some stairs don not have balustrades so you need to mind your step with care.

If you are afraid of darkness, you should go with somebody.
The mountain at night could be very scary.

On the other hand, the view from the top is very beautiful.

Only on 16th August you cannot enter the mountain.
On the day you should look up the bonfire from the ground. .

There are some good places for seeing the fire nearby A-yado.

Fushimi Inari Taisya at Night

I went to Fushimi Inari Taisha (伏見稲荷大社) in the evening.
Fushimi Inari Taisha is the head shrine of Inari.

Some shrines and temples have opening hours but Fushimi Inari opens 24 hours.
You do not need to pay admission fee.

This Shrine locates in the mountain and there are lots of staircases.
As you go up, you can enjoy the view.

This is at the sunset.

This is after the sunset at the same point.

If you want to enjoy a night view, this is one of the best places in Kyoto.

This is a photo of a staircase.
There are many torii (鳥居、Gateway to Shrine).

Now it is warm at night in Kyoto, so please try this place.

Geisha girl in Ponto-cho St.

Kyoto has the night lives to enjoy during your travel, though this city is famous for temples and shrines.

It was about 21:00. I found a Geisha girl on Ponto-cho St. She walked quickly as if she have should go somewhere in a second. The white make up on her face was really beautiful. I felt I have been in a unreal world.

The street was very tiny. BUT, when she walked, everybody give the space to her. In front of her there were some people, who wanted to take a photo.

That is Kyoto's night life. And if you like drinking, you can find bars and clubs near the area.

This city, Kyoto has many characteristics!

Kyoto's Night Life

Late at night I went out to buy a can of coffee, and somehow I wanted to take a photo of the night of Kyoto. It's a good idea to enjoy the relaxing time!

On a bridge I watched the lights of buildings. The black part is the sky and river. The river reflect those lights.

And near the busiest street of Kyoto, there were no people. But, I still found so many cars.

So many cars and so many people at a busy cross road. It was too dark on the sidewalk. So in the photo it looks line being without people. No, no, so many!

Kyoto has 17 world heritages. They have their own history and reason to be there. That's the historical side of Kyoto, and if you go out at night, you can enjoy bars clubs, and taverns. This city is also nice to drinkers.

I didn't drink this time.
But, I do sometimes!! A little bit drinking makes us more healthy, right?
Enjoy both, if you love both in Kyoto!
